Jackie Robinson

The setting begins in 1919, when Jackie Robinson was born near Cairo, Georgia.
At the time it was bad to be black in Georgia. It was bad because Georgia was a slave .
state and Abraham Lincoln did not sign the emancipation proclamation. Jackie was born in an old farmhouse. At that time they did not deliver babies for black people.
The story begins in Jan.31, near Cairo, Georgia where Jackie was born. 1 year later in 1920, the Robinson family moved due to the fact that Jackie's father left and they had no money. When Jackie got a little bit older in 1939, Jackie starred on the football, baseball, basketball and track team at UCLA. After he graduated from UCLA he served in the US Army from 1942-1944. When he left the Army, he played for the Kansas City Monarchs of the Negro League in 1945. In 1946, he played for the Montreal Royals, and in the same year he married Rachel Isum also in the same year Jackie Jr. was born. Just one year later, he was the first black man to play for any Major League team.
The main characters of the story are Jackie Robinson and Mallie Robinson. Jackie is black 5"6 and was very athletic and diligent. His diligence equaled to his athletics. Mallie Robinson was black, proud, and stubborn. Her pride is being equaled to her stubbornness. How it equals is that her pride of being black makes her stubborn when it comes to white people.
My review of the story is two thumbs up. I like it because it's true, very informative, great for young readers and starters. I would recommend this book to a friend because you might think you know enough about black history. But you can never know enough. Who knows you might learn something.
